2011 ADRL opener in Houston, Texas
Owens is Boss 4.02 in Houston
Lest there be any doubt about who's the man, Ashley Owens reeled off three straight 4.02s on his Fast By Gast Suzuki to demoralize the competition at the 2011 ADRL opener in Houston. Owens had 8/100ths on the field all day and vanquished closest competitor Kim Morrell in the final.
Other winners were Jason Hamstra in Pro Extreme Car, KA Balooshi in Pro Nitrous, Lamar Swindoll Jr. in Extreme 10.5, Cary Goforth in Extreme Pro Stock, and Henry Canales Jr. in Junior Dragster.
Owens 4.07 Stays on Top in Houston
Ashley Owens resumed his familiar spot at the top of the Pro Extreme Motorcycle qualifying order with a Q2 4.104 at 178 mph at the 2011 ADRL opener in Houston, Texas, then improved to 4.07 in Q3. 2010 season points champion Owens dropped '10 Belts champ Kim Morrell to second after she led round 1 with a 4.122. Arabian Drag Racing League points champion Terry Schweigert is third with a 4.13.
Matt Smith's got his Bagger unpacked and put together, but not in time to get a tune-up and is the only bike that did not make the field. Sheikh KH Al-Thani is back in the seat of the Pro Extreme Camaro that Matt drove in Qatar this winter and qualified #1 with Mad Man Frankie Taylor on a wild pass in the other lane. Here's how dragracecentral.com describes it: "Taylor left the starting line a couple tenths ahead of Al-Thani. About 100 feet out, Taylor's car started to turn to the right and the right-side wheels started to come up when he tried to bring it back, air getting under the car. Taylor quickly pulled the chutes and that saved both cars because they were on a collision course. Taylor's car came back down on all four wheels and finished in the right lane, behind Al-Thani, who knocked Taylor off the #1 spot."
Yesterday's birthday boy Mike Castellana is healthy enough to get back on track and is qualified fifth in the Pro Nitrous order behind #1 Jim Halsey.
