National Dragster Challenge completes despite rain at the Valley

Matt Carpentieri

Nineteen year old, secondd generation motorcycle drag racer Matt Carpentieri won the 60th anniversary pewter Wally during the National Dragster Challenge at Lebanon Valley Dragway on Sunday, May 22. Matt also won the $500 Brookside Equipment bonus. Matt rode father Mike’s Wolcott, CT. based 9 second Evolution motored ’76 Sportster for the win. After Matt’s 1st round opponent red lit, and a 2d round bye run, Matt used reaction times of; .002, .009, .014 to get the job done in PCW Bike/Sled competition.

Matt was quick to thank his dad Mike, Bob Fernandez (Machine work), Lebanon Valley Dragway , Bikes In the Valley and all the racers who have helped, encouraged and educated him. Racing runs in the Carpentieri family starting with Mike’s dad (circle track) and continuing with Matt’s motorcycle drag racing. In September, 2008 then 16 year old Matt accompanied his Dad to the track as usual. When they got there Dad said “Today you are going to ride the bike”. Matt has been “addicted” ever since.

Matt says the winter is really long and by January he can’t wait to get back on the bike. Matt loves the competition and camaraderie at the track and looks forward to more win lights.
